Nice to finally meet you.

A few years ago, I met a woman who would periodically foster dogs. I was intrigued and interested but in a remote, passive way. It never even passed my mind that everyday people with everyday lives and everyday families could foster. I really thought she was a professional or at least had an animal-related line of work. I would look with admiration at her social media posts where she would display one adorable picture after another of cute rescued dogs. The pride she felt came through with every picture. The sheer joy of playing with the dogs came through. The relief of saving a dog from a potential death came through. Yet still I didn’t ask how she did it. I assumed too much. I thought it would be too difficult, too bureaucratic, too complicated. Fast forward five years, my daughter becomes  determined to foster rescued dogs during her school vacations. She researched, reached out, sent applications, talked to directors of numerous agencies, and went through hundreds of social media feeds. So yeah, it was difficult, bureaucratic and complicated. But she persisted and finally we got him. A tiny, wounded, flea-infested Chihuahua runt.  Our lives changed after that. We became the ones who would proudly post pictures of our rescued dogs.

We felt the satisfaction of knowing we made a difference in the world. I am so thankful that COZ will make the process easier so more people can experience the excitement, joy and pride of getting to know these amazing animals.
